Just SHIFT

Perhaps I missed it, but I cannot find a way to turn a key into just a modifier... e.g. I have an external number pad that I'd like to use for certain shortcuts... how can I make a single key emulate the shift key and another key emulate CTRL and another emulate ALT?

to get a shift key I have tried:

{+}
which returns +

+{}
which returns nothing and does not shift characters


Is this possible?

No, it's not possible.
The whole idea of Hidmacros is to use more devices to simplify keyboard shortucts - it means to use single key press to simulate keyboard combinations. So Hidmacros itself doesn't support key combinations on input side.
