Thanks for answer. That was fast. So for the moment the only way is to use device different from standart keyboard...

I think this also answers my question about trying to use a Microsoft Chatpad with a USB wired Xbox controller. This being an original microsoft chatpad that connects through the controller itself (not an extra USB dongle as some 3rd part units do).

The keypresses aren't captured if the Steam games client is also running. All other regular USB keyboards are 'left alone' but the Steam client seems to take it upon itself to send those keystrokes through again.

That is, luamacros DOES work, it sees the Chatpad keystrokes. But then the same key gets sent again (presumably by the Steam game client).

I can't 'not run' the Steam client as the whole point here is to be able to use the chatpad while in-game to activate macros.

I can confirm that another Xbox chatpad alternative that uses it's own USB wireless receiver does not have the same double-entry issue as the factory original Microsoft Chatpad.

Which makes sense, as it's not really connecting 'through' the Xbox controller's USB connection (and thus not through it's driver subsystem). So the Steam game client doesn't pay any different attention to it, as it thinks it's just another keyboard.
